My Blog

Although it's called Holiday packages but behind the scenes, we start shopping for our loved ones even before Black Friday. When it comes to Holiday shipping, people feel concerned as it involves a lot of time, which is exhausting. That time you want to spend with your family and friends. So, after having extensive experience in this field, we thought about sharing our experience with the community to give them a stress-free Holiday season. Merry Christmas from "shipNmailbox" family to you.

Packaging Guidelines

Packaging Techniques

When it comes to shipping products, it's important to use packaging techniques that not only keep your items safe but that are also cost-effective. One popular method is to use corrugated boxes, which are made from sturdy materials and can withstand rough handling during transit. Another technique is to use cushioning materials like bubble wrap, foam peanuts, or air pillows to protect your items from damage. Additionally, using shrink wrap or stretch wrap can help keep multiple items together and prevent them from shifting around in transit. Overall, by using these cost-effective packaging techniques, you can ensure that your shipments arrive safely and intact, without breaking the bank.

Shipping Perishables

Shipping perishables

Any item that can spoil or become unsafe to eat if it’s not maintained at a specific temperature is considered perishable. Think dairy, meat, eggs, fish, and vegetables. Even flowers, pharmaceuticals, or cooked foods.

FedEx Express service options: Faster means fresher

Shipments containing perishables must be packaged for a minimum transit time of at least 12 hours greater than our delivery commitment time for the shipment. Perishables coming from Hawaii to the continental U.S. must be packaged for additional transit time.

  • The maximum gross weight allowed per package for most FedEx Express overnight services is 150 lbs. That weight includes packaging and refrigerant.

We don’t recommend shipping perishables via FedEx 2Day®, FedEx 2Day® Freight, or FedEx Express Saver®. If you choose one of those services, make sure your packaging will protect your products for at least 12 hours longer than the delivery commitment time.

  • Avoid shipping perishables on days that will require transit on a weekend or over a holiday.

How to pack Breakables

Breakable products need the most care during packaging

Investing in packaging up front and making sure you’ve followed our recommended best practices are the best ways to ensure your fragile items are delivered safely.

Six key tips from our FedEx packaging experts:

1. Choose the right box
The right box does more than just fit tightly around your product. Your box should be sturdy enough to support your product’s weight and large enough to accommodate cushioning material.

2. Pack safely
Double-box fragile items within a larger box and include 3” of cushioning in and around the interior .box. See our infographic for the best way to double-box

3. Restrict product movement
The correct placement and amount of cushioning is critical if you want your product to withstand events that can happen during shipping. Place the product in the middle of the box with ample cushioning on all sides. Use filler like crumpled newspaper, peanuts, or other cushioning material to keep your product from moving around.

4. Pack fragile products individually
Wrap fragile products individually in a minimum 3" thickness of air-cellular cushioning material, and then fill any empty spaces with loose-fill peanuts or other cushioning material.

5. Seal tightly
For a standard corrugated box, create an "H" by taping down the middle seam and on each edge.

6. Place the shipping label correctly
Always put the label on the package's largest surface. This increases the chance your package will stay the correct end up during shipping. Also, try not to place the label across taped seams.
